“Nothing happened in India. No one even talked about it in India" : Randeep Hooda

Randeep Hooda might be enjoying the success of his first time directing a movie called "Swatantra Veer Savarkar" now, but he's still upset about how his Hollywood film "Extraction" was treated in India in 2020. In an interview , he mentioned that even though the movie got a lot of praise worldwide, nobody in India talked about his performance in "Extraction."

"In India, nothing really happened. Very few people even discussed it in India, apart from a handful of media persons," said Randeep. "That role turned out to be fantastic. I received a lot of praise internationally. Everyone was asking, 'Who is this actor?' They also watched many of my previous films," he added. Randeep further mentioned that he deliberately opted for the action role because traditionally, Indians are more linked with non-violence rather than action. "I wanted to portray a disruptor in Extraction because I had the chance. When you look at India from an international perspective - and we owe it to Gandhiji - we're not seen as physically strong. We often get cast as taxi drivers, 7-Eleven clerks, doctors, or technicians. So, when I had the chance to engage in a fight with Thor (Chris Hemsworth's character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe), I deliberately accepted it," Randeep added.

Randeep played Saju, who works for Mahajan (Pankaj Tripathi), and his job is to rescue Mahajan's son Ovi from the tough guy Tyler Rake (played by Chris). He gets into a fight with Tyler on the streets of Dhaka, Bangladesh. "Extraction" was directed by Sam Hargrave and produced by the Russo Brothers. In the interview, Randeep also mentioned that he plans to direct an action movie next.
